PEPSI IPL 2013 Match - 42: PWI vs CSK

Chennai Super Kings avenged their first leg defeat to Pune Warriors India and galloped on with a convincing 37 run victory at the Subarata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune. CSK put up an all-round professional show to rout PWI, after posting 164 for 3 batting first. Then CSK restricted PWI to 127 for 9 in the run-chase.

Chasing 165, PWI got off to a brisk start as Robin Uthappa hit Ravindra Jadeja for a six in the very first over. Aaron Finch followed it with a boundary and a six off Albie Morkel in the second over. Finch hit Mohit Sharma for a boundary in the third over, but the bowler came back strongly to have the batsman edge one through to the wicket-keeper. He followed that up by rapping Tirumalasetti Suman (0) leg before first ball.

Suresh Raina then ran out Uthappa (8) to have PWI reeling at 29 for 3. Steve Smith got off the mark with two boundaries. Sharma then had Yuvraj Singh (5) caught behind for his third wicket. Luke Wright (2) was run out by Morkel in the most unfortunate fashion when Smith's drive caught Morkel's boot to hit the stump, finding Wright short.

PWI lost another wicket as Abhishek Nayar (2) was run out after he was involved in a mix up with Smith. PWI were 68 for 6 at the halfway stage, still requiring 97 runs. Kane Richardson showed some fight with a boundary and a six off Ravichandran Ashwin in the 14th over. Smith (35) fell in the 15th over when he was caught and bowled by Jadeja. Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided some entertainment smashing Jadeja for a massive six in the 17th over. PWI lost Richardson (26) and Rahul Sharma (0) and then fell 37 runs short.

Earlier CSK were pegged back early as Kane Richardson breached past Michael Hussey's (5) defense. After a slow start, Wriddhiman Saha got a move on with a six and a boundary off Richardson. Rahul Sharma trapped Saha leg before the next over as CSK made only 29 from their Power Play. Raina and Subramaniam Badrinath put on 75 runs for the third wicket as they rebuilt the innings.

Raina was given a life on 16 when Wright dropped him off Ashoke Dinda. Badrinath hit consecutive boundaries off Sharma in the 12th over before Raina (63*) joined him launching Richardson for a six in the next over. Wright dismissed Badrinath (34) caught by Smith bringing MS Dhoni to the crease.

Dhoni got going immediately with a boundary and a six. Dinda's 18th over was taken for 17 runs as Dhoni slammed a massive six. The CSK skipper finished with an aggressive 45 from just 16 balls which helped CSK reach 164 for 4.
