Beside with Hussey, he added 73 in fewer than 7 overs.

One more highlight of the CSK Innings was brilliant running between the wickets by trio of Hussey, Raina and Vijay on a sticky Chennai evening. When it mattered most, the KKR bowling assault flopped imperfectly but as they say that all's well that ends well.

Bisla's 50 came off only 27 balls but the former India colt’s player knew that he has a job at hand over. Dwayne Bravo was bowling his slower but in his two overs he was punch for two sixes over extensive.

The calm Kallis was prepared to crash anchor as he nudged the singles and rotated the strike with ease. Bisla's fifth six was a grandiose one off Ashwin over extra cover. The couple added 136 runs for the second wicket before Bisla whose impetus was broken by the strategic time-out finally tried to slash Morkel only to offer a simple catch to Subramanium Badrinath.

DLF IPL 2012 Match - 75 Qualifier 2

Murali Vijay

With a place in the final up for clutch, it was all to play for between the Chennai Super Kings and the Delhi Daredevils in this, the second Qualifying Match. In the end, it was the Chennai Super Kings who ran out comfortable 86 run winners thanks to an imposing 113 from Vijay and some wily offspin bowling from Ashwin who took 3-24 to book his side’s place in opposition to the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 5 Final.

The innings for the Super Kings couldn’t have gotten off to a more optimistic start bar a brace of maximums as Murali Vijay smacked Sunny Gupta’s first two balls for fours, the Indian international dancing down the path on both occasions.

A rare maiden from Negi appeared to tell pressure-wise as Hussey was Delhi’s first victim, snapped up by the keeper, yet his replacement Suresh Raina soon developed in, hitting a four off his third ball faced. A four and a six from Raina suggested he was going the way of Vijay, but he was disappointingly caught and bowled by Negi, bringing fan-favorite MS Dhoni to the crease.

Vijay continued in his rich seam of form, smashing Sunny for six, a ploy that was reciprocal by Dhoni who first pulled him for six and then unleashed the helicopter to score his second maximum in two balls. A four from Dhoni was a bizarre ancestor to his dismissal as Aaron. But then Vijay unleashed his tempting stroke play, hitting two more fours and bringing up a wonderful T20 century in the process, before Albie Morkel was dismissed first ball by Yadav.

His replacement, Dwayne Bravo, proved to be an appropriate replacement as the West Indian crashed two fours and two sixes off Aaron before Murali Vijay, the centurion, was dismissed sadly off the last ball of the innings, run out trying to add a second run to the total of 222-5 for the Daredevils to chase.

With a mammoth 223 needed to win, a good start was critical for the Daredevils and three rapid fours from Jayawardene suggested that the chase might just be possible. Until now David Warner could only contribute 3 from 7 balls as he was dismissed by his equal countryman Ben Hilfenhaus. And matters were compounded as the captain, one of the best T20 batsmen in the world, Sehwag was get out by Albie Morkel who daringly sent down a short ball.

The team ineffective to make any joint gamble and kept losing wickets at typical intervals. Their big weapons, Jayawardene, Taylor, Naman Ohja, Rao and Russell failed when it mattered. And the win was finally established as Dhoni produced an astral bit of fielding to run out Aaron and consolidate the gigantic 86 run win.

DLF IPL 2012 Match - 74 Eliminator

MS Dhoni

Since the first ball MS Dhoni faced following Chennai Super Kings were called in to bat by Harbhajan Singh, he looked in gloomy touch. He came into bat after Michael Hussey and S Badrinath had guided the team out of a mini calamity they had lost two wickets early on in the innings.

Beginning there on he went on to score 51 runs off just 20 deliveries homicide Mumbai bowlers all over the park, constant dishing out his ‘Helicopter Shot’ to guide Chennai Super Kings to a total of 187/5. The total proved more than sufficient for the defending champions as Mumbai fell short of the total by 38 runs. The win takes CSK to the second qualifier.

DLF Cup

Earlier, Dhawal Kulkarni took two wickets in two deliveries to put Mumbai further on in the eliminator match in front of a capability crowd at Bangalore. From there on, S Badrinath and Michael Hussey added 94 runs in 12 overs to conduct them out of trouble and provided their captain MS Dhoni a great platform to launch attack on the opposition bowlers. Both Hussey (49) and Badri (47) chop short of their fifty. Ravindra Jadeja was caught gone scoring just one but was replaced next to Dwayne Bravo in the middle, who then along with Dhoni added 73 in just 4.5 overs.

Kulkarni, who bowled a brilliant first over, wavering the ball was later taken to task first by Dhoni and then by Bravo. He ended up with three wickets while leaking 46 runs in his allocation of fours over. None of the Mumbai bowlers can make a crash, even Malinga, known for his deadly precision, looked off colour.

Mumbai Indians, not like CSK, had an optimistic start to their innings and swiftly moved to 47 runs in 4.5 overs before Sachin Tendulkar was run out. Barring Dwayne Smith, who scored 38 runs, none of Mumbai’s batsmen made any important contribution. The team unsuccessful to produce any joint venture and kept losing wickets at normal intervals. Their big guns, Rohit, Sachin, and Kerion failed when it mattered and they finished their innings at 149/9.

DLF IPL 2012 Match 67 – DD vs RCB

Gayle

Predator (Gayle) reckoned that his team was under pressure to deliver their most excellent in the must-win game against table-toppers Delhi Daredevils. And the Jamaican once more became the wrecker-in-chief with an unbeaten 128 runs from 62 balls. Predator destroyed the Daredevils on their home turf.

Predator (Gayle) along with Virat Kohli shared an unbeaten 204-run partnership for the second wicket as Bangalore posted a massive total of 215 runs. The only wicket they gone was of Dilshan who decomposed in the third over, but from there on, it was the Gayle rainstorm and Kohli’s elegant strokes which made a mockery of the Delhi bowling attack.

It was an inflexible chase for the Delhi Daredevils who came to the field without their regular skipper Virender Sehwag, who missed the match due to fever. Delhi too rested their in-form bowler Morne Morkel and Gayle along with Kohli made the most of it. On two occasions, Predator (Gayle) scored three successive sixes and there was a stage when the Delhi bowlers had given up to his lusty blows and his ability to clear the rope at will.

It was always going to be an inflexible chase for Delhi but they made sure that they put up a fight in front of the home crowd. David Warner began his innings in style as he scored two consecutive boundaries off Dilshan’s first over and also damaged Zaheer Khan for a six over extra-cover. But the Australian lost manages of his bat the very next ball and decomposed. Unmukt Chand was impressive during his short stay at the crease but the youngster couldn’t handle up with the pressure of scoring consistent boundaries.

Venugopal Rao played a few good strokes earlier than he was dismissed by Muralitharan. The Sri Lankan was hit for numerous boundaries and sixes by Ross Taylor who rose to the occasion just on time. Virat Kohli had put three fielders for him on the leg-side, but Taylor managed to clear the chains and find gaps on numerous occasions. Towards the end, it was all left to Andre Russell who played a small cameo role, but with no support from the other end, in spite of his best efforts, Delhi fell short of the mammoth total by 21 runs.

Even though the Daredevils had nothing to lose in the match having already booked their berth to the playoffs, the result would boost the buoyancy of Bangalore who need to win their next game in classify to reach to the top four. During his burning knock, Predator (Gayle) became the only player in IPL history to have three tons by his name.
